Thoughts from the Quintessential Salesman
My dad is the quintessential salesman. He has been doing this for over 40 years. We would love for him to retire soon, but since mom passed away two years ago, he figured he would not have anything to do when he quits his job. Besides, he loves what he is doing – going on field sales is his adventure. He gets to meet new people and come home with endless stories of his experiences. I can totally understand his resilience and skepticism towards the online catalog software. He is not sold with the comfort that this 21st century brings. He says being able to “reach” (yes, said with air quotes) your clients while being somewhere else defeats the purpose of connecting to people in the first place. He looked at me with a very sorry look in his eyes and said, “Son, you are missing out on all the adventures that this occupation brings.”
